The Savagery Of The Islamic State - 1502 Words

Before analyzing the savagery of the Islamic State, it is imperative to distinguish their beliefs from those of practical Muslims. ISIS is a Sunni jihadist (extremist) group-their ideology is reminiscent of the old-school views of the Muslim Brotherhood, and many of their principles are the same embraced by Al-Qaeda. In adopting extreme anti-Western interpretations of Islam, its adherents promote religious violence to oust â€Å"infidels† or â€Å"apostates† who threaten ‘their’ faith. Although these â€Å"disciples† are technically Sunnis, they have been classified as Kharijites-Muslims who have deviated from mainstream Islam, by the United States. (UMinn) By the same token, it affirms that â€Å" all rights and freedoms stipulated under the Declaration are subject to Islamic shari’a.† Shari’a does not refer to individual rights-it focuses more on mutual obligations. (UMinn) Basically, Muslims are more concerned about protecting their religion rather than themselves. Unlike ISIS, they do not overlook basic rights or chastise anyone who opposes their beliefs. With this in mind, it is important to appreciate Islamic ideals and not sort them into the objectives of the Islamic State. (Losano) For months, the Islamic State has violated the rights of thousands of Iraqis and Syrians. The Yazidis and the Assyrians have been the main victims of ISIL, along with the Shia Muslims, because of their â€Å"satanic† beliefs. How severe is the violence? Well, al-Qaeda thought it was â€Å"too† excessive. (Bird) ISIS does not just kill people-they torture, mutilate, rob, and humiliate anyone who contradicts their â€Å"faith†. They have abducted thousands of civilians, and more than 830,000 indigenous peoples have fled their homes in fear of persecution. Villages such as Sinjar (at least 200 children dead), Mosul (3,000 Christians fled), Hardan (250-300 killed), Khana Sor (100 killed), Dhola (50 killed), Ramadi Jabal, al-Shimal, Khocho, Jadala, and Beshir have been ransacked and deserted.
